ἔγκειμαι , fut. -κείσομαι: used as Pass. of ἐντίθημι:
b. to be implied, involved in, “. τὸ αἰσθητικὸν εἶναι ἐν τῷ εἴδειPlot.6.7.3.
3. abs., to be inserted, Pl.Cra.402e, R.616d.
II. press hard, esp. of troops pressing upon a defeated or retreating enemy, Th.1.49, 144, etc.; of opponents in politics or argument, “ἐνέκειντο τῷ ΠερικλεῖId.2.59, cf. 5.43, etc.: freq. with Adj. or Adv., πολλὸς ἐνέκειτο λέγων was very urgent, Hdt.7.158, cf. Th.4.22; πολὺς τοῖς συμβεβηκόσι ἔγκειται he insists much upon . . , D.18.199; ἄγαν . τινί to be vehement against one, Ar.Ach.309; ἰσχυρῶς . Th.1.69; “βαρὺς ἐγκεῖσθαιD.H.6.62; ὅλος ἐγκεῖσθαί τινι to be devoted to one, Theoc. 3.33; “. ἐπὶ τὰ πονηράLXX Ge.8.21.
III. to be upon, δέ οἱ περὶ ποσσὶ . . ἐνέκειτο, of a sandal, IG14.1389i27.
IV. to be a burden, annoyance, Herod.4.47 (prob.).
