ἔκκειμαι , serving as Pass. of ἐκτίθημι,
A.to be cast out or exposed, ἐπορᾶν ἐκκείμενον (sc. τὸν παῖδα) Hdt.1.110, cf. 122, Longus 1.3; “ἁπλοῦν τὸ ἦθος καὶ παντὶ ἰδεῖν ἐκκείμενον” D.H.Rh.10.1.
2. of public notices, decrees, etc., to be set up in public, posted up, “ἵν᾽ ἐκκέοιτο πρὸ τῶν ἐπωνύμων” D.21.103, cf. 58.9; to be set forth, “ἡ ἐμὴ προθυμία ἐκκείσθω” POxy.220 vi5; “ἐκκειμένων οὖν τῶν βίων” Plu.Comp.Ages.Pomp.1.
3. to be proposed, “ὁ σκοπὸς ἐ. καλῶς” Arist.Pol.1331b31; “μισθοὶ παρὰ βασιλέως ἔκκεινται” Str.15.1.46; “ἔλασσον τοῦ ἐκκειμένου” SIG577.66 (Milet., iii/ii B.C.).
4. c. dat., to be exposed to, be at the mercy of, Str.5.2.6, Alciphr.3.29; “τύχαις” Plot.6.8.15; “τῷ μέλλοντι” Id.3.6.18 ; also “πρὸς τὸ πάσχειν” Procl.Inst.80.
5. to be set forth, expounded, Arist.Rh. 1419b23; in logical sense, Id.Top.103b29, cf. APr.48a8, Epicur.Nat. 28.1, Phld.Sign.19, etc.
6. Geom., to be set out, 'taken', ἐκκείσθω κύκλος, ὁ ἐκκείμενος κῶνος, Archim.Sph.Cyl.1.5,28.
II. c. gen., fall from out, be left bare of, “μηροὶ..ἐξέκειντο πιμελῆς” S.Ant.1011.
2. project, “ἐκκειμένη εἰς θάλατταν ἄκρα” Str.5.4.8 ; “πύργοι ἔξω ἐκκείμενοι” D.C.74.10; “στέρνα προέχοντα καὶ ἐκκείμενα” Philostr.Gym.35 ; “φλέβες ἐκκ.” Gal.17(2).97 ; in painting, stand out, Philostr.Im.2.1.
