ἔπηλ-υ^ς , υ^δος, ὁ, ἡ, ἔπηλυ, τό, （ἐπήλυθον)
A.one who comes to a place, ἔλθετ᾽ ἐπήλυδες αὖθις come back to me (for they were going away), S. Ph.1190 (anap.).
II. incomer, stranger, foreigner, opp. αὐτόχθων, Hdt.1.78, 4.197; “ἄνδρας πολεμίους ἐ.” A.Pers.243 (troch.), cf. Th.34, Supp.195, Th.1.29; Adj., “ἔ. γένεσις” Pl.Mx.237b; “ἔ. βίος” J.AJ8.12.2: also in neut. pl., “ἐπήλυδα ἔθνεα” Hdt.8.73: neut. sg., “ἐπήλυδος γένους” D.H.1.60; “ὕδωρ ἔπηλυ” Paus.2.5.3.
