ἐξαμβλ-όω (ἐξαναβλ- is dub. in Hsch.), aor.2 inf. -αμβλῶναι prob.
A.f.l. for -ῶσαι in Them.Or.2.33b:—make to miscarry, “νηδὺν ἐξαμβλοῦμεν” E.Andr.356:—Pass., of the foetus, miscarry, “βρέφος ἐξαμβλωθέν” Apollod.3.4.3: metaph., “αὕτη ἡ ἐλπὶς ἐξήμβλωτο αὐτῇ” Ael.Fr.57.
2. make abortive: metaph., φροντίδ᾽ ἐξήμβλωκας you have made a notion miscarry, Ar.Nu.137; to which Strepsiades retorts, εἰπέ μοι τὸ πρᾶγμα τοὐξημβλωμένον your abortive thought, ib.139, cf. Pl.Tht.150e; “ἐ. θείας γονάς” Ph.1.219:—Pass., “ὁ πυρὸς ἐξαμβλούμενος” Thphr.CP4.5.3; “σώματος ἰσχὺς ἐξαμβλοῦται” Plu. 2.2e.
II. intr., prove abortive, Ael.NA2.25: impers., “ἐξαμβλοῖ” a miscarriage follows, Arist.HA577b6.
