II. lie by or near, lie in wait, of an enemy watching for an opportunity of attack, Th.4.71, 8.92; “ὅταν εἰδῶσιν ἐφεδρεύουσαν τὴν δύναμινIsoc.8.137; . τινί keep watch over, as a prisoner, E.Or.1627: generally, watch for, “τοῖς . . ἀγαθοῖς ἐφεδρεύων ἕτερος καθεδεῖταιD.5.15; “τοῖς καιροῖς τινοςId.8.42, cf.
