A.in or of the land, native, “ἥβα” A.Pers.922 (anap.); “τις . . οἰωνοπόλων ἔγγαιος” Id.Supp.59 (lyr.).
2. within the land, opp. ὑπερόριος, X.Smp.4.31.
II. of property, in land, consisting of land, “οὐσία” Lys.Fr.91, D.36.5; “κτήσεις ἔγγειοι καὶ οἰκίαι” IG9(2).338.9 (Thess.), cf. CIG 2056 (Odessus), Plb.6.45.3; τὰ ἔγγεια the fixtures of a farm, D.30.30; “συμβόλαιον ἔγγειον” Id.33.3; στατῆρας δανεισάμενος ἐγγείων τόκων on mortgage, Id.34.23 (ἑκατὸν μνᾶς ἐγγείους (v.l. ἐγγύους） ἐπὶ τόκῳ δεδανεισμένας is read by codd. in Lys.32.15); “ἔγγεια καὶ ναυτικά” PEleph.1.13 (iv B.C.).
III. in or of the earth, [φυτὰ] ἔγγεια plants, Pl.R.491d; “φυτὸν οὐκ ἔγγειον, ἀλλὰ οὐράνιον” Id.Ti.90a; “λίθων τὰ ἔγγαια μέρη” Plu.2.701c.
