ἐγκαθ-ίζω , Ion. ἐγκαθ-κατίζω ,
A.seat in or upon, “εἰς θρόνον” Pl.R.553c; ἐ. στρατιὰν ἐν τοῖς τόποις station a force in a place, Plb.16.37.4: aor. 1 Med., ναὸν ἐγκαθείσατο (vulg. ἐγκαθείσατο, cf. ἐγκαθισάμενοι τὰ ὅπλα v.l. in J.BJ5.1.2) founded a temple there, E. Hipp.31.
2. administer a sitz-bath to one, Sor.1.64, Herod.Med. ap.Orib.6.20.18, etc.:—Pass., Hp.Mul.1.35; also, to be used for such, Dsc.5.13,30.
3. cause to subside upon, “τοῖς κοιλώμασι τὴν ὑπερκειμένην γῆν” Lyd.Ost.53.
II. intr., sit in or upon, [θρόνῳ] Pi. P.4.153:—Med., ἐγκατίζεσθαι εἰς θρόνον take one's seat on . . , Hdt.5.26.
