II. rub out, i.e. to destroy root and branch, σφέας πίτυος τρόπον ἀπείλεε ἐκτρίψειν (cf. πίτυς) Hdt.6.37; “. τινὰ πρόρριζονE.Hipp.684; “τὴν ποίην ἐκ τῆς γῆς ἐκτρίβεινHdt.4.120; “αὕτη μ᾽ γυνή ποτ᾽ ἐκτρίψειHerod.6.27, dub. in E.Cyc.475; βίον . bring life to a wretched end, = Lat. conterere vitam, S.OT248, cf. 428:—Pass., “πρόρριζος ἐκτέτριπταιHdt.6.86.δ́; ὁπλὰς ἐκτετριμμένος with the hoofs worn off, Luc.Asin.19.
III. rub constantly, wear out, “Ἄτλας . . νώτοις οὐρανὸν ἐκτρίβωνE.Ion2 (s. v.l.).
IV. rub, thresh out, f.l. in Nic.Fr.68.3.
V. polish, Thphr.HP4.11.6, Plb. 10.20.2; “ἀργυρώματαClass.Phil.19.234 (iii B.C.); cf. ἐξετρίβετο: σφόδρα ἐκοσμεῖτο, Hsch.
