ἐνάρχομαι , fut. -ξομαι prob. in E. (v. infr.):—in sacrifices,
A.begin the offering, by taking the barley from the basket, “κανᾶ δ᾽ ἐναρχέσθω τις” E.IA1470, cf. Men.Sam.7; “προχύτας Χέρνιβάς τ᾽ ἐνάρξεται” E.IA 955: pf. in pass. sense, “κανοῦν δ᾽ ἐνῆρκται” Id.El.1142; “ἐνῆρκται τὰ κανᾶ” Aeschin.3.120.
2. generally, begin, Sammelb.4369(b).23 (iii B.C.), etc.; “τῆς θερείας ἐναρχομένης” Plb.5.30.7: c. inf., πολεμεῖν ib.1.5; “γενειᾶν” D.H.6.13: ἐ. τινός make a beginning of, “τῆς ἐπιβολῆς” Plb.5.1.3; “τοῦ λόγου” Plu.Cic.35; ὁμιλιῶν engage in, Ath.Med. ap. Orib.inc.21.9; ἐνῆρκται folld. by a quotation, Apollon.Cit.1: abs., begin to speak, Plu.Cam.32.
