A.hold or keep fast within, χόλον ἐνέχειν τινί harbour a grudge against one, Hdt.1.118, 6.119 (v. 11.2).
II. Pass., with fut. and aor. Med. (v. infr.), to be held, caught, entangled in, c. dat., “τῇ πάγῃ” Id.2.121.“β́; ἐνεχομένων τῶν πελτῶν τοῖς σταυροῖς” X.An.7.4.17; “ἐν τοῖς τῆς νεὼς σκεύεσι” Pl.La.183e.
2. metaph., “ἐ. ἀπορίῃσι” Hdt.1.190; “φιλοτιμίᾳ” E.IA527; “ὀργαῖς πολυχρονίοις” Phld.Ir.p.63 W.; “ἐν ἄγεϊ” Hdt.6.56; “ἐν ταῖς αὐταῖς δυσχερείαις” Arist.Cael.309a29; ἐν θώματι ἐνέσχετο was seized with wonder, Hdt.7.128.
3. to be liable or subject to, “οὐ δικαίοις Ζεὺς ἐνέξεται λόγοις” A.Supp.169 (Pors. for ἐνεύξεται, lyr.), cf.And.1.44; πράγμασιν, λειτουργίαις, BGU473.7 (ii A.D.), PFlor.382.31 (iii A.D.), etc.

4. in good sense, ἐνέχεσθαι ἀγγελίᾳ meet with a message, Pi.P.8.49.
5. in aor., come to a standstill, “ἔν τινι” Pl.Tht. 147d.
III. intr., enter in, pierce, “εἴς τι” X.Cyn.10.7.
