ἐπείρομαι , inf. -είρεσθαι v.l. in Hdt.7.101, al.: impf.
A.“-είρετο” Id.3.22, al.: fut. “-ειρήσομαι” Id.1.67, al.: used by Att. only in fut. “-ερήσομαι” Ar.Lys.98, Pl.32, and aor. -ηρόμην, inf. -ερέσθαι, S.OC557 (prob.), Th.8.29, etc.; Ion. “ἐπειρέσθαι” Hdt.1.19, al.:—ask besides or again, “τοῦτο” X.Cyr.6.3.10.
II. c. acc. pers., ask or question him besides, τι about a thing, Ar.Lys.98, v.l. in Hdt.7.101; “περί τινος” Id.1.158; with relat., “ἐ. ὅ τι σιτέεται ὁ βασιλεύς” Id.3.22; “ὅντινα τρόπον” Id.4.161.
2. esp. inquire of a god, “τὸν θεόν” Id.1.19; “ἐπήροντο τὸν θεόν, εἰ παραδοῖεν . .” Th.1.25; “ἐπερησόμενος ᾠχόμην ὡς τὸν θεόν” Ar.Pl. 32; “ἔπεμπον τὴν ἐς θεὸν ἐπειρησομένους τὸν χῶρον” Hdt.1.67; question a person, S. l.c.
3. ask the people for their opinion, “τὴν γνώμην” Pl.Ax.368d, cf. D.22.5.
