II. apply the name of A (acc.) to B (dat.), where A is usu. a god, ascribe or assign B to A, “ἑκάστῃ μοίρᾳ θεόνPl.Lg.771d ; ὅσα τις πράττει τοὺς θεοὺς ἐπιφημίζων in the name of the gods, D.20.126 ; “ἅπασι τοῖς μεγάλοις . τὸ δαιμόνιονPlu. Publ.23.
III. call, name, c. dupl. acc., “τὸ ἀγαθὸν . λυσιτελοῦνPl.Cra. 417c, cf. Ti.73d ; “ἀέρα . σκότοςPh.1.6, cf. 2.43,al., Porph.Abst.1.7 ; “Ἡλίου -ίζοντας Αἰήτην υἱέαJul.Or.2.82d.
2. with epexegetic inf., τὴν ἔξω φορὰν ἐπεφήμισεν εἶναι τῆς ταὐτοῦ φύσεως the outer revolution he called the revolution of the Same, ordained that it should be.., Pl.Ti.36c : hence,
3. bestow a name on,ὄνοματά τισιPh.1.304, al., D.C.54.33 ; πομπῇ ἐπεφήμισαν οὔνομα νηῶν named [the fish πομπίλος] after.., Opp.H.1.187.
IV. in later Prose, dedicate, devote to a god, Luc.Sacr.10 ; “Διὶ ἀγάλματαMax.Tyr.8.8 ; “τοὺς γενομένους τότε παῖδας Ἄρεως .Str.5.4.12:—Pass., Id.6.2.9, Ph.2.565, Plu.Cam.7, etc.
