ἐπιγουν-ίς , ίδος, ,
A.part above the knee, great muscle of the thigh, taken as a sign of strength and vigour, κεν . . μεγάλην ἐπιγουνίδα θεῖτο he would grow a stout thigh-muscle, Od.17.225; “οἵην ἐπιγουνίδα φαίνει18.74,cf. Theoc. 26.34, Alciphr.3.19, Philostr.Im.2.24; prob. in this sense in A.R.3.875.
