ἐπισείω , Ep. ἐπισσ- (as always in Hom.),
A.shake at or against, τί τινι, esp. with the view of scaring, ὅτ᾽ ἂν . . Ζεὺς . . αὐτὸς ἐπισσείῃσινἐρεμνὴν αἰγίδα πᾶσιIl.4.167, cf. 15.230; ἐπισείουσα τὸν λόφον ἐκπλήττει με Luc.DDeor.19.1, cf.2.2, etc.; “τὰ δόραταHdn.2.13.4; . πόλεμον τῇ πατρίδι stir up . . , J.BJ2.17.3; Πέρσας . hold them out as a threat, Plu.Them.4; but . τὴν χεῖρα, in token of assent or applause, Luc.
