ἐπιχειρο-τονέω ,
A.sanction or confirm by vote, of the Assembly, “ἐπειδὰν ἐπιχειροτονῆτε τὰς γνώμας” D.4.30 ; ἡ εἰρήνη ἡ ἐπιχειροτονηθεῖσα Decr. ap. eund.18.29 ; incorrectly, ἐπεχειροτόνησεν ἡ βουλὴ καὶ ὁ δῆμος Decr.ib.105.
2. confirm in office, “τὰς ἀρχάς” Arist.Ath.43.4, cf.37.1 ; τοὺς προέδρους -τονεῖν the π. shall confirm the appointment, Lexap.D.24.39 : hence, of a Roman Tribune, ἐπεχειροτόνησε τῷ Μαρίῳ τὴν στρατηγίαν got the Praetorship for him, Plu.Mar.35.
