A.setting straight, correction, chastisement, Pl.Prt.326e (pl.); calling to account, POxy.1203.9 (i A.D.), etc.
II. esp. at Athens, public examination of the conduct of officials, held on the expiration of their term of office (dist. fr. λόγος 'rendering of accounts', “οὔτε χρήματα διαχειρίσας τῆς πόλεως δίδωμι λόγον αὐτῶν, οὔτε ἀρχὴν ἄρξας οὐδεμίαν εὐθύνας ὑπέχω αὐτῆςLys.24.26; “λόγον διδόντων τῶν χρημάτων . . καὶ εὐθύνας διδόντωνIG12.91.27), used in sg. by Ar.V.571, Lys.10.27, al.; “ εὔ. βλάβη τις δικαία ἐστίνArist.Rh.1411b20: more freq. in pl., IGl.c., Ar.Eq.825 (anap.), etc.; πρεσβείας εὔθυναι an account of one's embassage, D.19.82; [“τῆς στρατηγίας] ἔμ᾽ ἀπαιτεῖς εὐθύναςId.18.245; opp.“εὐθύνας διδόναιAr.Pax 1187, And.1.90; “ὑποσχεῖνLys.30.3; κατηγορεῖν [τινος] εἰς τὰς εὐ.
