(In signf. 1 perh. fr. δέελος (dub. l.), δῆλος (Δεα^λος?): the alternative expl. from δείλη (cf. supr. 11) given by ancient Gramm., e.g. Apollon.Lex. and Str.9.2.41, does not suit signf. 1, but suits the forms.)
