εὐπα^τρίδης , ου, Dor. εὔπαρ-δας , α, ὁ, (πατήρ)
A.of good or noble sire, of noble family, of persons, used by Trag. in lyr., S.El.162, E.Alc.920 (anap.), Hipp.152, etc.; “εὐ. οἶκοι” Id.Ion 1073: also in later Prose, Muson.Fr. 13Bp.69 H.
II. Εὐ., οἱ, at Athens, the old aristocracy, opp. ἀγροῖκοι (or “γεωμόροι” Plu. Thes.25) and δημιουργοί, Arist.Ath.13.2, cf. Scol.14, Isoc.16.25, X.Smp.8.40; “πένητας Εὐπατρίδας οὐδεὶς ὁρᾷ” Alex. 90.3; but τὰ τῶν Εὐ. πάτρια sacred traditions of the Eup., Ath.9.410a and ἐξηγητὴς ἐξ Εὐ. IG3.267, 1335, refer to a particular family of that name.
