2. phlegm, one of the four humours in the body, Hdt.4.187, Hp.Nat.Hom.4, Aph.7.54, Phryn.Com. l.c., Thphr.HP9.11.9; “φ. ὀξὺ καὶ ἁλμυρὸν πηγὴ πάντων νοσημάτων ὅσα γίγνεται καταρροϊκά” Pl.Ti.85b, cf. 83c sq.; “ἡ χολὴ μέν ἐστι θερμόν, τὸ δὲ φ. ψυχρόν” Arist.Pr.862b28, cf. Pl.R.564b; “τὸ πικρὸν φ.” Phld.Vit.p.18J.: pl., Pl.Ti.82e; φ. ἁλυκά ib.86e.
3. λευκὸν φ., a kind of dropsy, anasarca, Hp.Aph.7.75 (but λευκὸν φ., in the common sense, Pl.Ti.83d, 85a).
