II. foolish, silly, “εὐηθίη” Hdt.1.60; “ἠλίθιον θάρρος θαρρεῖν” Pl.Phd.95c; “νόμος” PThead.25.7 (iv A.D.); freq. of persons, E.Cyc.537, Ar.Ach.443, etc.: Comp. “-ώτερος” X.Smp.3.6: Sup. “-ώτατος” Ar.Ec.765; ἠλίθιόν [ἐστι] c. inf., Arist.Pol.1286a12, prob. in Antiph.58; also ἠλιθίων ἐστί is the mark of a fool, Phld.Po.5.32. Adv. “-ίως, διακεῖσθαι” Lys.1.10; “οἰόμενοι” Pl. Tht.180d, cf. Theoc.10.40: Comp. “-ώτερον” Jul.Gal.89a: neut. ἠλίθιον as Adv., Ar.Nu.872.
