Cond.26:—Pass., pf. “ἵδρωταιId.Herm.2: (ἶδος):—sweat, perspire, esp. from toil, “τὸν δ᾽ ἱδρώονταIl.18.372; “ἵππους λῦσαν . . ἱδρώονταςOd.4.39; of a hunted deer, “ἤϊξε . . σπεύδουσ᾽ ἱδρώουσαIl.11.119; ἱδρώσει . . τελαμὼν ἀμφὶ στήθεσφιν it shall reek with sweat, 2.388: c. acc. cogn., “ἱδρῶ θ᾽ ὃν ἵδρωσα μόγῳ4.27; διὰ τί τὸ πρόσωπον μάλιστα ἱδροῦσιν; Arist.Pr.867b34, cf. 866b28.—The contr. forms (really from ἱδρώ-ω) have ω, for ου, οι (cf. ῥιγόω), fem. part. “ἱδρῶσαιIl.11.598; 3pl. “ἱδρῶσιThphr.Sud.36; opt. “ἱδρῴηHp.Aër.8: codd. of X. vary between ἱδροῦντι and ἱδρῶντι, HG4.5.7, Cyr.1.4.28, but “ἱδροῦντιAn.1.8.1, “ἱδροῦσιArist. Il.cc.; ὡς ἂν ἱδρῶντες, corrupted to ὡσανεὶ δρῶντες, Ph.1.490: pres. ἱδρώω in Luc.Syr.D.10,17; Ep.part. ἱδρώουσα, -οντα (v. supr.), “-ονταςAr.Pax1283 (hex.).
