ἰθα_γενής [ι^], ές, or ἰθαιγ- , Od.14.203 (v.l.), Hdt.2.17 (v.l.), A. Pers.306(v.l.), Alex.Aet. (v. infr.):—
A.born in lawful wedlock, ἀλλά με ἶσον ἰθαγενέεσσιν (so most codd. and A.D.Adv.187.24: v.l. ἰθαιγ- ἐτίμα honoured me like his true-born sons, of a νόθος, Od. l.c., cf. A.R.Fr.12.2 (ἰθαγ- cod.), Alex.Aet.3.2 (ἰθαιγ- cod.).
2. of a nation, from the ancient stock, aboriginal, opp. “ἔπηλυς, . ΑἰγύπτιοιHdt.6.53, cf. A.Pers.306; “οὐχ ὑπ᾽ ἰθαγενῶν ἤρχοντοStr.7.7.8, cf. Agath.2.15,25.
3. . κύημα, opp. an abortion, Hp.Mul.1.71; of some mouths of the Nile, natural, original, opp. ὀρυκτά, Hdt.2.17; . νότος, ζέφυρος, genuine, Arist.Mete.364a16,18.
