καλλωπ-ίζω , (ὤψ) prop.

II. Med., adorn oneself, make oneself fine or smart, Pl.Smp. 174a.
2. metaph., pride oneself in or on a thing, τινι Id.Phdr. 252a, X.Ages.11.11; “ἐπί τινιPl.R.405b: also “κ. ὅτι . . Id.Prt.317c; ὡς . . c. part., Id.Cri.52c, Tht.195d: abs., make a display, show off, Arist.Rh.Al.1421a4; of a horse, X.Eq.10.5: c. acc. cogn., “πολλὰ πρὸς αὑτούςPhld.Rh.1.238 S.; ταῦτα -ίζεται makes a fair show, Iamb. Protr.20.
3. to be coy or mock-modest, τινι or πρός τινα towards another, Pl.Prt.333d, Phdr.236d: c. inf., κ. παραιτεῖσθαι affecting to deprecate, Plu.Caes.28, cf. Phalar.Ep.92.
