2. Rhet., of a writer, to be pure, correct in language, “κ. τὴν διάλεκτονD.H. Lys.2; οἱ καθαρεύοντες purists, Hdn.Gr.2.224.
3. Gramm., to be preceded by a vowel, to be 'pure' (cf. “καθαρός1.5b), A.D.Pron.99.24, Theodos.Can.p.70H.; contain a 'pure' syllable, Hdn.Gr.2.923, Id. ap.Eust.1859.13.
