καθιδρ-ύω , causal of καθέζομαι,
A.make to sit down, “Ὀδυσῆα καθίδρυε” Od.20.257; μακάρων ἐς αἶαν σὸν καθιδρύσει βίον will carry thee to the land of the Blest that thou mayst live there, E.Ba.1339:—Pass., sit down, settle, Ar. Av.45; ἐν πόλει, ἐν τῷ ὄρει, Pl.Sph.224d, Th.4.46; κ. ἐς Ἀργώ take one's seat in . . , Theoc.13.28; to be quartered, of troops, PLond.3.1313.11 (vi A.D.).
2. establish, place, ἐν τοῖς τιμιωτέροις τὸ τιμιώτερον (sc. τὴν καρδίαν）“ καθίδρυκεν ἡ φύσις” Arist.PA665b20; ἐφ᾽ ἑνὸς τόπου κ. τὴν ἱστορίαν to limit it, D.H.Th.6:—Pass., κ. ἐς τὴν ἑωυτῶν Χώρην to be restored, replaced, Hp.Fract.31, cf. Prorrh.2.19; ἐν αἷς [ἱστορίαις] “καθιδρῦσθαι τὴν ἀλήθειαν ὑπολαμβάνομεν” D.H.1.1.
3. consecrate, dedicate, aor. 1 Med. “καθιδρυ_σάμην” E.IT1481; “-υ^σάμην” IG14.882 (Capua): pf. Pass. in act. sense, E.Cyc.318:—Pass., “Ποσειδῶνος τοῦ κατιδρυθέντος ὑπὸ . . ” SIG1020.5 (Halic., i B.C.); “τεμένη -ύετο τῷ θεῷ” Luc.Cal.17.
