κατα-κλύζω , fut. -κλύσω [υ^], poet.
A.“-κλύσσω” Pi.O.10(11).10: pf. “κατακέκλυκα” PMagd.28.10 (iii B. C.):—deluge, inundate, “τὴν γῆν” Hdt. 2.13 (of the Nile), cf. 99 (Pass.), Pi.O.9.50, Th.3.89, Pl.Ti.22d, OGI 90.24 (Rosetta, ii B. C.):—Pass., PPetr.2p.15[= 3 p.xv] (iii B. C.), etc.; “ὑπ᾽ ὄμβρων -κλυζόμενος” Isoc.11.12; “κόσμος ὕδατι -κλυσθείς” 2 Ep.Pet. 3.6.
2. metaph., deluge, overwhelm, “τοίους γὰρ κατὰ κῦμα . . ἔκλυσεν” Archil.9.3; “τὴν Φρυγῶν πόλιν . . ἤλπισας κατακλύσειν δαπάναισιν” E.Tr. 995; “ἅπαντα . . κατακλύσει ποιήμασιν” Cratin.186; κ. ἀφθονίᾳ δίαιταν make life overflow with plenty, X.Oec.2.8; κατακλύσαι δεινῶν πόνων deluge with sufferings, E.Or.343 (lyr.); “εἰ καὶ μέλλει γέλωτι . . ὥσπερ κῦμα . . κατακλύσειν” Pl.R.473c:—Pass., ἀλλοδαπῶν κύματι φωτῶν -κλυσθῆναι, of a city, A.Th.1084 (anap.); “-κλυσθεὶς ὑπὸ τοῦ τοιούτου ψόγου ἢ ἐπαίνου” Pl.R.492c; “Χρυσίῳ -κεκλυσμένος” Plu.Dem.14; “-κλυσθέντα πλήθει κακῶν” Lib.Ep.5.1.
