κατακοιμ-άω (on the Hom. usage v. infr. 11.2):
I. intr., sleep, pass the night, ξεῖνόν τινα Χρήμασι πείσας κατεκοίμησε (v.l. -ισε） ἐς Ἀμφιάρεω he went to sleep there, Hdt.8.134: freq. v.l. for -κοιμίζω 11 (q.v.).
II. causal, put to sleep, οὐδὲ . . λάθα κατακοιμάσῃ (sc. τοὺς νόμους) S.OT871 (lyr.); κατεκοίμησα τοὐμὸν ὄμμα ib.1222 (lyr.); v.l. for -κοιμίσαντ' in Pl.Smp.223d:—Pass., “-κοιμηθεὶς ὑπὸ μέθης” Them. Or.26.326b; θυμὸς κ. ὑπὸ λογισμοῦ ib.8.110c.
2. used by Hom. only in aor. Pass., sleep, “κατακοιμηθῆναι” Il.2.355, Hdt.2.121.“δ᾽; κατακοιμηθήτω” Il.9.427; “κατακοιμηθέντες ἐν τῷ ἱρῷ” Hdt.1.31; “ὃς ἂν ὑπαίθριος κατακοιμηθῇ” Id.4.7, cf. Plb.3.67.2 (v.l.); imper. pres. “κατακοιμάσθω” Ar.Th.46 (anap.).
