κατατέμνω , Ion. καταταρτα^ρ-τάμνω , fut. -
A.“τεμῶ” Ar.Ach.301: aor. κατέτεμον (v. infr.); Ion. and Dor. “κατέταμον” Hdt.4.26, Tab.Heracl.1.14:—cut in pieces, cut up, “κρέα” Hdt. l.c., cf. Ar.Pax1059; “ἑαυτόν” X.Mem.1.2.55; “τὴν κεφαλήν” Aeschin.3.212; “γέρρα” X.An.4.7.26:—Med., κ. δέραν ὄνυχι lacerate, E.El.146 (lyr., tm.):—Pass., τελαμῶσι κατατετμημένοις with regularly cut bandages, Hdt.2.86; “σπλάγχνα κατατετμημένα” Ar.Av. 1524; χώρη ἐς διώρυχας -τέτμηται is cut up into ditches or canals, Hdt. 1.193, cf. 2.8; κατετέτμηντο ἐξ αὐτῶν (sc. τῶν διωρύχων）“ τάφροι ἐπὶ τὴν χώραν” X.An.2.4.13.
b. metaph., “τι ἐν τοῖς λόγοις κ.” Pl.Hp.Ma. 301b.
2. c. dupl. acc., κ. τινὰ καττύματα cut him up into strips, Ar.Ach.301; σῶμα κατατεμὼν κύβους having cut it up into cubes, Alex.187.4; “τὴν βατίδα τεμάχη κατατεμών” Ephipp.22; “ὅτι σμικρότατα τὸ σῶμα” Pl.R.610b; κ. (sc. τὰν γᾶν） μερίδας τέτορας Tab.Heracl. l.c.: —Pass., κατατμηθείην λέπαδνα may I be cut up into straps, Ar.Eq. 768.
3. κ. τὸν Πειραιᾶ lay it out in streets, Arist.Pol.1267b23:— Pass., τὸ ἄστυ κατατέτμηται τὰς ὁδοὺς ἰθέας has its streets cut straight, Hdt.1.180.
4. cut into the ground, “κ. τοῦ χωρίου βάθος τρεῖς πόδας” IG22.1668.7; τὰ κατατετμημένα places where mines have already been worked, opp. τὰ ἄτμητα, X.Vect.4.27.
5. cut down, pare, [“τὸ δέρμα] ὁμαλῶς” Hp.Fract.11.
6. abuse, revile, Pl.R.488b, Hyp.Ath.12.
