κατα-ψύχω [υ_],
A.cool, chill, “ὕδωρ κ. τὴν ξηρὰν ἀναθυμίασιν” Arist.Mete.361a2, cf. 368b34; “ὁ φόβος καταψύχει” Id.PA650b28, cf. Pr.954b13, al.; αἱ ἄτομοι . . κατέψυξαν [τὸ σῶμα] Epicur.Fr.60:—Pass., fut. -“ψυ^γήσομαι” Vett.Val. 73.21: pf. -έψυγμαι: aor. -εψύχθην, also -εψύγην [υ^] Arist.Pr.897a22:—to be chilled, become cold, Hp.Aph.4.40, Arist.HA531b31, etc.; of persons, κατεψυγμένοι, opp. θερμοί, Id.Rh.1389b30.
2. metaph., οὐ -έψυξαν τὴν ὁρμήν did not allow their ardour to cool, J.BJ1.2.7:— Pass., “κατέψυκτο τὸ πρακτικόν” Plu.Pomp.46, cf.Critodem. in Cat.Cod. Astr.8(1).259, Vett.Val.l.c.
