II. teach by word of mouth: hence generally, instruct, κ. τινὰ πολλὰ τῶν ἀγνοουμένων Agrippa 11 ap.J.Vit.65, cf. Luc.Asin.48, PStrassb.41.37 (iii A.D.):—Pass., to be informed or instructed, “περί τινος” Act.Ap.21.21; κ. ὅτι . . Ph.2.575; “ὥσπερ κατηχήμεθα” S.E.M.5.5.
2. in NT, instruct in the elements of religion, 1 Ep.Cor.14.19:—Pass., “περὶ ὧν κατηχήθης λόγων” Ev.Luc.1.4; “ὁ κατηχούμενος τὸν λόγον” Ep.Gal.6.6; “κατηχημένος τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ Κυρίου” Act.Ap.18.25, cf. Porph. Chr.26.
