A.cavity of the body, i.e. thorax with abdomen, Hp.Art.46 (including ἄνω κ., = thorax, κάτω, = abdomen, acc. to Gal.15.896); τὰ κατὰ κ. νουσήματα diseases of the thoracic cavity, Hp.Aff.6.
2. belly, abdomen, Hdt.2.87, IG42(1).122.32 (Epid.), etc.: specified as “ κάτω κ.Ar.Ra.485, Hp.Ulc.3, Pl.Ti.73a, 85e, Arist.Somn.Vig.456a3, PA650a13, etc.; opp. ἄνω κ., stomach, Pl.Ti.85e, Arist.PAl.c.; κ. alone freq. = stomach, Id.HA 489a2, etc.; of birds, Id.PA674b22; also, paunch or rumen of animals, Id.HA507b5: hence, of gluttons, “δουλεύειν τῇ ἑαυτῶν κ.Ep.Rom.16.18, cf.
