A.to be lord or master, rule, command, in Hom., 1. of a military leader, “ὣς ὅ γε κοιρανέων δίεπε στρατόν” Il.2.207, cf. 4.250; “μάχην ἀνὰ κοιρανέοντα” 5.824; πόλεμον κάτα κοιρανέουσιν ib.332.
2. of a king in peace, “Λυκίην κάτα κοιρανέουσιν” 12.318; of the suitors (princes) in Ithaca, Od.1.247, al.
II. later c. gen., to be lord of, Hes.Th.331, A.Pers.214: c. dat., “θεοῖσι κ.” Id.Pr.49; Ep.impf. “κοιρανέεσκεν” A.R.2.998: abs., “τὸν νῦν κοιρανοῦντα” A.Pr.958: c. acc., lead, arrange, “χορούς” Pi.O.14.9:—Pass., Call. Del.167.
