2. crier's bell, hence ταῦθ᾽ οὗτος μόνον οὐ κώδωνας ἐξαψάμενος διαπράττεται 'is his own trumpeter', D.25.90: metaph., κ. ἀκαλανθίς ὅτι λάλον τὸ ζῷον Sch.) Ar.Pax 1078 (perh. κύων is the true reading, v. App. Prov.1.12); cf. κρόταλον.
