I. in Hom. only of wind and water, furious, boisterous, “Ζέφυρος λάβρος ἐπαιγίζωνIl. 2.148, cf. 2. eagerly, greedily, λ. διαρταμᾶν (of the eagle) A.Pr.1022; τῇ βρώσει χρῆται λ. (of the lion) Arist.HA594b18, cf. Ph.1.71.—Poet. word, used also in Ion. and late Prose. [λα_- by position in Ep.: λα^- E.Or. l. c., HF861 (troch.), AP11.25 (Apollonid.).]
