A.throwing stones, pelting with stones: -βόλοι, οἱ, stone-throwers, distd. from σφενδονῆται, Th.6.69, cf. J.BJ3.7.18; “γυμνῆτες λ. καὶ ἀκοντισταίPl.Criti.119b: sg., as winner of a contest, SIG1061.6, 19 (Samos, ii B.C.).
