A.bringing water: παῖς, παρθένος λ. at Athens the boy or girl who, as next of kin to the bridegroom, fetched him water from the fountain Callirrhoe on his wedding day, Harp. s.v., Paus.2.10.4, Poll.3.43: hence λ. χλιδή marriageceremony, E.Ph.348 (lyr.).
2. as Subst., λουτροφόρος, , black urn placed on the tomb of an unmarried person, D.44.18,30, Poll.8.66; cf. λίβυς.
