λοχίζω ,
A.= λοχάω, lie in wait for:—Pass., λοχισθέντες διεφθάρησαν they were cut to pieces by falling into an ambuscade, Th.5.115, cf. D.C.41.51.
2. place in ambush, “λοχίζει ἐς ὁδὸν κοίλην ὁπλίταςTh. 3.107; “λ. ἐν τόπῳD.H.2.55: c. dat. loci, Id.3.64 (nisi leg. <ἐν> χωρίοις; λοχίσαντος is prob. l. in Plu.Oth.7.
3. beset with an ambuscade, “λελοχισμένον χωρίονD.H.1.79.
II. distribute men in companies (λόχοι), and so, put them in order of battle, Hdt.1.103, Aen. Tact.1.5, Plu.Sull.27:—Pass., to be so distributed, Agatharch.Fr. Hist.17J., D.H.2.14, etc.
