μα^κα?́ρ-ιος , α, ον, also ος, ον Pl.Lg.803c: collat. form. of μάκαρ, mostly used in Prose, but also in Poets, as Pi., and freq. in E.,
1. mostly of men, blessed, happy, Pi.P.5.46, E.Or. 86, etc.; “σοφοί τε καὶ μ. ἄνδρεςPl.R.335e; μ. τε καὶ εὐδαίμων ib.354a: distd. from εὐδαίμων by Arist.EN1101a7, 19: freq. in phrases such as “μ. ὅστις . . νοῦν ἔχειMen.114, cf. Mon.357, 614, Phld.Ir.p.3 W.: Sup., Id.Piet.104: in addresses, μακάριε my good sir, my dear sir, Pl.Prt.309c, R.432d, Men.Pk.219: c. gen., μ. τῆς τύχης O happy you for . . , Ar.Eq.186, cf. V.1512, Pl.Euthd.303c; “ἰὼ χελῶναι μακάριαι τοῦ δέρματοςAr.V.1292; μ. σὺ τά τε ἄλλα καὶ αὐτὸ τοῦτο ὅτι . . X. Cyr.8.3.39.
3. of the dead, like μακαρίτης, Pl.Lg.947e, cf. Ar.Fr.488.9; “μακαρίας μνήμηςBCH25.89 (Bithynia), Sammelb.4753.2, etc.
