A.testimony, proof, “πρῶτον καὶ μέγιστον μ.” Hdt. 2.22, cf. Pi.I.4(3).10, etc.: freq. in pl., “μαρτύρια θέσθαι” Hdt. 8.55, cf. A. Ag.1095 (lyr.), Eu.485, 797; “μετ᾽ ἀειμνήστου μ.” Th. 1.33; μαρτύριον δέ . . , folld. by γάρ, here is a proof, namely . . , ib.8, etc.; “μέγα τόδε μ., . . γάρ” Hdt.8.120.
