μενεαίνω , (μένος)
A.desire earnestly or eagerly, c. pres. inf., “μηδὲ θεοῖς μενεαινέμεν ἶφι μάχεσθαιIl.5.606, cf. Od.13.30, etc.: more freq. c. aor. inf., “μενεαίνεις Ἰλίου ἐξαλαπάξαι πτολίεθρονIl.4.32, etc.: rarely c. fut. inf., ἐρύσσεσθαι (v.l. -ασθαι)“ μενεαίνων21.176, Od.21.125 (s. v. l.): when abs., an inf. may be supplied, σὺ δ᾽ ἀσπερχὲς μενεαίνεις [διῶξαι] Il.22.10; μάλα περ μενεαίνων [καταφθῖσαι] Od.5.341, etc.: also c.gen., μ. μάχης long for battle, Hes.Sc.361: c. acc. rei, ὄλεθρον μ. τινί purpose death against another, Q.S.12.380.
II. to be angry, rage, Il.19.68, 24.22,54; “ἔριδι μενεήναμεν19.58; μ. τινί rage against one, 15.104, Od.1.20, etc.; κτεινόμενος μενέαινε wrestled with death, Il.16.491 (Sch. expld. it by ἐλειποθύμει).—Ep., and Ps.-E.Fr.1132.51 (lyr.).
