ὅρκ-ιος , ον, rarely α, ον E.Med. 208 (lyr.):—
A.belonging to an oath, i.e.
1. sworn, bound by oath, δικαστὰς . αἱρουμένη (so Casaub.) A.Eu.483 ; . λέγω I speak on oath, S. Ant.305, cf. OC1637: Comp., ὁρκιωτέραν δ᾽ ἤμην τὰν δώλαν the slave's oath shall carry the greater weight, Leg.Gort.2.15.
2. that which is sworn by, . θεοί the gods invoked at an oath, who watch over its fulfilment and punish its violation, E.Ph.481, cf. IT747 : in Prose, “θεοὶ οἱ .Th.1.71,78 ; “οἱ . θ.Aeschin.1.114 ; esp. “Ζεὺς .S.Ph.1324, E. Hipp.1025, Arist.Mir.845b33, Paus.5.24.9sq., etc.; “ὁρκία ΘέμιςE. Med. l.c. ; “φθιμένων σέβας .AP7.351 (Diosc.); ξίφος . a sword sworn by, E.Ph.1677.
