3. generally, a voice, sound, “ἰΰζειν ὀμφάν” A.Supp.808(lyr.) ; “μύθων αὐδαθέντων ὀ.” E.Med.175 (lyr.).

II. ὀμφά: ὀσμή (Lacon.), Hsch., dub. cj. in Lyr.Adesp.63 ; cf. “εὔομφος” 1, ποτόμφει.

III. ὄμφαι, αἱ, name of the best kind of nard, “τὰς ὄμφας ὀνομαζομένας βαρβάρῳ γλώττῃ κτλ.” Gal.14.74. (In sense 1 cogn. with Engl. song : in sense 11 with ONorse anga 'give out a sweet scent', angi 'scent', ang 'pleasant sensation'.)
