ὀμίχλ-η (
A.ὁμ-Eust.117.33 and v. infr. ; a form ὄμιχλ-λα is condemned by Hdn. Philet.p.445 P.), , mist, fog (not so thick as νέφος or νεφέλη, Arist. Mete.346b33, cf. Mu.394a19), Hom. only in Il. ; “εὖτ᾽ ὄρεος κορυφῇσι Νότος κατέχευεν ὀμίχλην3.10 ; so Thetis rises from the sea, “ἠΰτ᾽ ὀμίχλη1.359 ; “. καὶ δρόσοςAr.Nu.330 ; “κονίης ὀμίχληνIl.13.336 ; “ὀμίχλη ἐγένετοX.An.4.2.7, etc. : metaph., “ὄσσοις ὁμίχλα προσῇξε πλήρης δακρύωνA.Pr.145(lyr.).
2. cloud-like darkness, gloom,κατὰ νυκτὸς .AP5.228 (Maced.), cf. Orph.A.521, etc.
3. the steam of cookery, Mnesim.4.64. (Cf. Lith. miglà 'mist.)
