A.“ὠρόθυνα” Lyc.693 ; imper. “ὀρόθυνον” Il.21.312 :—stir up, rouse, urge on, mostly of persons, Il.13.351, etc.; also of things, “πάντας δ᾽ ὀρόθυνον ἐναύλους” 21.312 ; “πάσας δ᾽ ὀρόθυνεν ἀέλλας” Od.5.292 : c. inf., urge one to do, A.R.1.522, 1275.— Ep. word, used in Pass. by A., “στάσις τ᾽ ἐν ἀλλήλοισιν ὠροθύνετο” Pr. 202 ; and Herm. restores ὀροθύνεις (for ὀρθεῖς or ὀρθοῖς) in E.Ba. 1168 (lyr.).
