ὀχυ^ρός , ά, όν, (ἔχω ἐχυρός,
A.firm, lasting, stout, of wood, Hes.Op. 429 (Sup.); of persons, “διθρόνου Διόθεν . . τιμῆς ὀχυρὸν ζεῦγος ἈτρείδαινA.Ag.44 (anap.): but elsewh. A. uses ἐχυρός (q. v.).
2. of places, strong, secure, “παρθενῶνεςE.IA738; esp. as military term, of a stronghold or position, strong, “ὄροςX.An.1.2.22; χωρίον ib.1.2.24, Isoc.9.30 (v.l. ἐχ-)“; πόλειςPlb.7.15.2; “τὰ .X.Cyr.6.1.15, etc. Adv. “-ρῶςE.Med.124 (anap.), Charito 7.2.
