ὀχυ^ρός , ά, όν, （ἔχω）῀ ἐχυρός,
A.firm, lasting, stout, of wood, Hes.Op. 429 (Sup.); of persons, “διθρόνου Διόθεν . . τιμῆς ὀχυρὸν ζεῦγος Ἀτρείδαιν” A.Ag.44 (anap.): but elsewh. A. uses ἐχυρός (q. v.).
2. of places, strong, secure, “παρθενῶνες” E.IA738; esp. as military term, of a stronghold or position, strong, “ὄρος” X.An.1.2.22; χωρίον ib.1.2.24, Isoc.9.30 (v.l. ἐχ-）“; πόλεις” Plb.7.15.2; “τὰ ὀ.” X.Cyr.6.1.15, etc. Adv. “-ρῶς” E.Med.124 (anap.), Charito 7.2.
