οἰκτ-ίζω (pres. only in compd. κατ-), Att. fut.
A.οἰκτιῶA.Pr.68 (“κατ-S., etc.): aor. “ᾤκτισαS.OT1508 : mostly poet., pity, have pity upon, c. acc. pers., A.l.c., S.l.c., etc. ; “τινὰ τῆς μικροψυχίαςArist.Mu.391a22 : c. acc. rei, “πάθος οἰκτίσαιS.Tr.855 (lyr.):—Med. in same sense, “ἐπίδοι . . στόλον οἰκτιζομέναwith pitying eye, A.Supp.1031 (lyr.), cf. E.Hec.720 (as v.l.), Th.2.51.
2. Med. also, bewail, lament, τι E.IT486, cf.Hel.1053 : abs., Din.1.110 : c. acc. cogn., “οἶκτον οἰκτίζεσθαιutter a wail, A.Eu.515 (lyr.), cf. E.Tr.155 (anap.).
