A.swoop or pounce upon, “οἴμησεν δὲ ἀλεὶς ὥς τ᾽ αἰετός” Il.22.308, cf. 311 ; κίρκος . . οἴμησε μετὰ τρήρωνα πέλειαν swooped after a dove, ib.140.
2. abs., dart along, θύννοι δ᾽ οἰμήσουσι Orac. ap. Hdt.1.62.
