A.palm of the hand: hence, generally, hand, esp. as used in grasping, “παλάμῃ δ᾽ ἔχε χάλκεον ἔγχοςOd.1.104; “ἔγχος οἱ παλάμηφιν ἀρήρειIl.3.338, cf. 1.238, etc.; “παλάμᾳ δονέωνPi.P.1.44.
2. hand as used in deeds of violence, ἔπασχον ὑπ᾽ Ἄρηος παλαμάων by the hands of Ares, Il.3.128, cf. 5.558, A.Supp.865 (lyr.); “Κυπρογενήας παλάμαισινAlc.60: hence, a deed of force, “ῥέξαι παλάμανS.Ph.1206 (lyr.).
3. hand as used in works of art, etc., Il.15.411, Hes.Th.580, Sc.219, 320; “ἐργατίναις π.IG12(2).129 (Mytil.).
II. metaph., cunning, art, device, either in good or bad sense, π. βιότου a device for one's livelihood, Thgn.624, cf.
