A.show beside or by uncovering, “μηδ᾽ αἰδοῖα . . παραφαινέμεν” Hes.Op.734 ; “σπάθην” Philem.70 ; οὐδὲν παραφῆναι τοῦ σώματος give no glimpse of it, Ar.Ec.94 ; “π. τῶν ὀδόντων ὅσον ἀπόχρη τῷ ᾁδοντι” Philostr.Im.1.10 ; οἱ μαζοὶ μικρὰ τῆς ὁρμῆς παραφαίνουσιν ib.2.32.
2. produce, τὸν ὅρκον the form of oath, Ar.Lys. 183.
3. walk beside and light, show the way to a place, Id.Ra. 1362, Plu.TG14.
4. show, demonstrate, “παρέφηναν εἶναι τῆς σοφίας οὐκ ἀμύητοι” Eun. VSp.468B.
