περίπολος , ον, (περιπέλομαι)
A.going the rounds, patrolling: hence, as Subst.,
1. watchman, patrol, Epich.35.10, Plu.Num.16, Luc. VH2.6, etc.; “π. τῶν βασιλείωνLib.Or.59.144.
2. pl., at Athens, patrol, in which ἔφηβοι (and also non-Athenians, cf. Lys.13.71 with Th.8.92) served, Ar.Av.1177, Th.4.67, 8.92; “τοὺς π. ἀπιέν᾽ εἰς τὰ φρούριαEup.341 : sg. in Aeschin.2.167.
3. generally, attendant, follower, as fem., S.Ant.1150 (lyr.).
4. π. πάσης τῆς ὑφ᾽ ἥλιον 'globe-trotter', Him.Or.14.25, cf. Lib.Ep.168.
